Standard circuit, sprint, free run, and lap knockout modes round out the gameplay, but in terms of uniqueness, it's the drift and drag runs that'll really please enthusiasts. NFSU offers a variety of cool racing styles, including the new drift and drag challenges.
The bulk of the gameplay (story, unlockables, ranking etc.) is played in the "Go Underground" mode, which consists of a whopping 111 separate challenges.
There's so much to do in NFSU, that initially it's a pretty daunting task. While the GameCube and Xbox versions are technically more advanced than the PS2, the lack of online and the simplistic split-screen two-player mode means that GameCube and Xbox are slightly pipped to the post by PS2. Released simultaneously on PlayStation 2, GameCube, and Xbox, the biggest disappointment for GameCube owners is once again a total lack of online multiplayer functionality. Reputation, pimped-out rides, slick imports and style are the name of the game in Need for Speed Underground. A scant twelve months later, EA's at it again, although this time the focus of the game is illegal street racing. Last year's Hot Pursuit 2 made a great impression on the gaming press, and went on to be one of the best racing titles of the year.
Meanwhile, the new Need for Speed game from Criterion Games is already in development with the 2022 release window.Electronic Arts is well-known for its famous Need for Speed racing franchise. The title’s online services will remain available until August 31 for all owners. In addition, just recently EA has delisted a bunch of Need for Speed games from digital storefronts. Unfortunately, there is very little chance of Need for Speed Underground 2 being remastered in the future, as the game features plenty of copyrighted material, such as licensed cars and music, not to mention licensed performance and visuals upgrades made by companies that are defunct for years. The production team hinted there’s plenty of Easter eggs in the video, including the ending inspired by Furious 7, where Dominic Toretto and Brian O’Conner drive in different directions. The footage was created by Russian company Odonata, a group that specializes in car and motorsport commercials. Of course, the new Underground 2 Remastered clip is totally unofficial, with no ties at all to Electronic Arts whatsoever. Those cars weren’t featured in the original Underground 2 game, but still are some of the most recognizable among the fans of the series. Other iconic Need for Speed guest cars have also appeared in the footage, including Most Wanted’s BMW M3 GTR and Underground’s Nissan Skyline GT-R. It was her green customized Nissan 350Z which players enjoyed during the first racing sections. The fans have recreated Underground 2’s cinematic intro with airport arrival and introduction to Rachel Teller (originally performed by Brooke Burke). Unofficial Need for Speed Underground 2 Remastered trailer debuted on the Odonata Cinema channel on YouTube on July 7, and the clip has surpassed 70,000 views in less than two days. Russian enthusiasts have shown off what a potential modern Need for Speed Underground 2 Remaster could look like if released sometime in 2022 with the updated graphics.
